How to Join

“Being part of GCS has given me some of the most lasting and worthwhile friendships I have known”

We welcome new singers at Gloucester Choral Society

We want to attract new singers so please come along and join us on at one of our Monday rehearsals. If you enjoy yourself, you can then put yourself forward for audition to become a member.

It is probably best to join in either September or January so you get to attend all the rehearsals for the next concert.

When do we rehearse?

We rehearse on Monday nights from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

Where do we rehearse?

Mainly, we rehearse in the Chapter House at Gloucester Cathedral but, on occasion, we will meet at either Sir Thomas Rich’s School, Denmark Road High School or The King’s School.

In the week leading up to a concert, we rehearse in the cathedral itself.

Where do we perform?

Our concerts all take place in the magnificent Gloucester Cathedral.

Join us and experience the sheer joy and excitement of singing some of the greatest music ever written under the direction of one of Britain’s top choral conductors in one of the finest concert halls in the world!

New Members are always welcome to join us, even if you may not yet have a lot of experience.

What should I do now?

You can send your details to the Membership Secretary on membership@gloucesterchoral.com

Firstly, you are welcome to attend a couple of rehearsals to get to know members of the society before deciding whether to present yourself for audition. Auditions are normally held in September, but feel free to contact us at any time during the year.

Once you have passed your audition you will join the section of the choir that suits your voice and, from there, you will be expected to prepare for and sing in every concert the Society presents. Your subscription will only be payable if you pass your audition.

“Singing with GCS is exciting, uplifting and a lot of fun”

Anything else I need to know?

A subscription fee is payable for each season (September to June). Currently, this is £175. Membership for under 25s is free. You can choose to pay your subscription fee as one lump sum, or in instalments. If paying in instalments, you must have paid in full by the April of that season.

Concessions may be available for those in financial difficulty. If you have any concerns of affordability, please contact the Membership Secretary or a member of the board in confidence for more information.

Music is provided by GCS, with the exception of Messiah, for which you will need your own copy. All other music is usually hired for the duration required and must be returned after the concert.
