About GCS

Gloucester Choral Society is a first-rate, established, amateur choir with a rich history stretching back over 175 years, based at Gloucester Cathedral. We are dedicated to presenting an interesting, varied and challenging programme of concerts each season.

By tradition, GCS is conducted by the Director of Music at Gloucester Cathedral, so we are fortunate to be led by Adrian Partington. Similarly, we are expertly accompanied by the cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music, Jonathan Hope.

We present up to five concerts per season and a range of ‘come and sing’ workshops in Gloucester Cathedral. Many of our singers also take part in the Three Choirs Festival Chorus each year.

We pride ourselves on the quality of the performances we give and the wonderful professional musicians we are able to work alongside. Our commitment to such high standards enables us to engage some of the most accomplished soloists and orchestras, including the Philharmonia Orchestra in recent years.

GCS has singers of all ages, but we’re working to revive our Choral Apprentices scheme for younger singers, following the challenges of the pandemic. In the meantime, we’re widening access to families and young people with all student / U25 tickets being just £5.
