Gloucester Cathedral
Gloucester Cathedral is a fine example of English Cathedral design and building, where you can enjoy examples of art and architecture from across the ages – right up to today! This has been a place of Christian worship continuously for over 1300 years, since Osric, an Anglo-Saxon prince, founded a religious house here in 678-9 AD.
Little is known for certain about the communities which worshipped here or the buildings they used over the next 400 years although it is believed that the Benedictine Rule was introduced here early in the 11th century.
The Cathedral today is much more than just an ancient monument – it is a living church open 365 days a year. The Eucharist and Morning and Evening Prayer are offered every day. All are welcome to come and there is no charge.
The Cathedral is also a fabulous concert venue, with some amazing acoustics. We are the choral society in residence and we welcome new singers in all voice parts. We strive for excellence in all that we do, so we will ask you to audition, but we’re sure you wouldn’t have it any other way. Try us out on a Sing Saturday. Singing with GCS is exciting, emotionally uplifting and a lot of fun!
