[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he centrepiece of our festival features Gloucester Choral Society, alongside the Oxford Bach Choir and the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Adrian Partington.

The Ode on the Nativity, composed by Parry for the Three Choirs Festival in 1912, is rarely performed today but is quintessential Parry. It is performed here with the well-known anthems I Was Glad and Jerusalem, Holst’s Hymn of Jesus and the orchestral scoring of Ireland’s Greater Love Hath No Man. The concert will also feature Vaughan William’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, played by the Philharmonia in the acoustic in which it was first performed in 1910.

This will be a wonderful celebration of the work of Parry and his pupils, a real feast of English music, and is not to be missed.
